Here is the link to copy your own quick start guide. I got mine from robbwolf.com and it is the easiest way to do it. There are other resources out there too but this one is easy.

You have to subscribe to his newsletter to get the free guide. His newsletter is great btw!

Basically, it is a diet of protein, fruits, veg, and nuts/seeds/fats. No grains or beans! Dairy is questionable. If you have any digestive issues or skin issues I say avoid dairy too but those of you who can tolerate go for it.

Exercise–You may not feel great for 2-3 weeks as you cleanse and your blood sugar changes for the better. Concentrate on rest and recovery. Lift heavy things and do intervals occassionally to keep fitness in check. Listen to your body.

Lose some weight and get healthier! Lower your cholesterol, blood sugar, and inflammation with this 30 day quick start.

Let’s rock it!

****10% off any paleo products in my office this next week if you mention this blog*****

Hey GIRLS (and boys for that matter)….I completed my first duathlon yesterday on complete PALEO POWER food. The duathlon consisted of a 3.1 mile run then a 12 mile bike ended with another 3.1 mile run. I completed the race in 1 hour and 30 minutes….pretty good for an old lady (36). I got 2nd place overall for the woman! The point of this post is to give kudos to the PALEO eating style for women (aka pussies…lol!).

This morning as I post this I realize that I am NOT sore. My muscles feeel great and I am recovered perfectly. I could work out today but won’t to allow my muscles to recover totally. I have been eating 75-100 grams of protein per day from meat, eggs, and a bit of protein powder. I have been eating NO grains and NO beans for about 4-5 weeks. I have cheated a bit here and there because of food necessity but other than that been pretty good. I have been eating lots of fruit, veg, nuts/seeds, and coconut products too. Yum! I now BELIEVE in the POWER of this primitive eating style. I wasn’t running after a deer for dinner but I did chase down lots of men and women on my run/bike!

Another side benefit to eating PALEO is the fact that my raging PMS has all but gone away. Ask my husband? Last cycle was so much calmer than usual…this one should even be better. I usually take herbs/progesterone to help this but haven’t taken for 6 weeks to see the changes from the diet alone.

I also am NOT bloated, tired, sick, sore, constipated, zitted out, or anything…..This NO GRAIN/BEAN thing is right on target! In fact, my guts feel great…no irritation baby!

Give it a shot for 30 days…you won’t be sorry. Check out robbwolf.com for a 30 day quick start guide and shopping list. I plan to do my own soon and will be offering the supplements you need on the program in my NEW online store…coming soon.

How many carbs is OK? Where do we get carbs? Remember, you can get all the carbs you need from fruit, veggies, and sweet potatoes. You do NOT need whole grains, bread, pasta, etc to achieve carb bliss. In fact, if you cut these gut irritating foods you will feel better and your ass will thank you (because it will shrink!).

Here is a simple guide to help you out….read labels and start adding up your carbs for the day.

300 or more grams/day - FAT ASS ZONE

Easy to reach with the “normal” American diet (cereals, pasta, rice, bread, waffles, pancakes, muffins, soft drinks, packaged snacks, sweets, desserts). High risk of excess fat storage, inflammation, increased disease markers including Metabolic Syndrome or diabetes. Sharp reduction of grains and other processed carbs is critical unless you are on the “chronic cardio” treadmill (which has its own major drawbacks).

150-300 grams/day – Slow gain zone.

Continued higher insulin-stimulating effect prevents efficient fat burning and contributes to widespread chronic disease conditions. This range – irresponsibly recommended by the USDA and other diet authorities – can lead to the statistical US average gain of 1.5 pounds of fat per year for forty years.

100-150 grams/day – Keep your ASS sexy zone.

This range based on body weight and activity level. When combined with Primal exercises, allows for genetically optimal fat burning and muscle development. Range derived from Grok’s (ancestors’) example of enjoying abundant vegetables and fruits and avoiding grains and sugars.

50-100 grams/day – Lose some of your ass zone.

Minimizes insulin production and ramps up fat metabolism. By meeting average daily protein requirements (.7 – 1 gram per pound of lean bodyweight formula), eating nutritious vegetables and fruits (easy to stay in 50-100 gram range, even with generous servings), and staying satisfied with delicious high fat foods (meat, fish, eggs, nuts, seeds), you can lose one to two pounds of body fat per week and then keep it off forever by eating in the maintenance range.

0-50 grams/day – YOUR ASS IS Melting BABY!

Acceptable for a day or two of Intermittent Fasting towards aggressive weight loss efforts, provided adequate protein, fat and supplements are consumed otherwise. May be ideal for many diabetics. Not necessarily recommended as a long-term practice for otherwise healthy people due to resultant deprivation of high nutrient value vegetables and fruits.

How can we optimize our hormone balance? Well, one way is to make sure we are getting all the proper nutrients from our diets. So just what is a “proper” diet? I am not sure anyone knows what a perfect diet is but I am going to give you my opinion (at the moment anyway) of what I think we should eat like. I am basing my opinion on literally hundreds of diet books, research articles, journal articles, and some good old common sense. I deal with alot of hormone issues for sure, but I also see my share of autoimmune diseases, heart issues, diabetes/insulin issues, and other crazy dis-eases. The diet I am going to share with you all can help any of these issues.

Our digestive system was designed to be perfect for us. We should be able to digest what we need and thrive…not get sick or fat. If we go back in time to the time of earliest man…the hunter/gatherers…what food did they have and eat? Did they eat bread? Did they eat sugar? Did they eat rice? Did they eat cheese sticks? You get the idea. They actually ate (confirmed by numerous archeological studies) meat, fish, nuts, seeds, and fruits/vegetables in season. They ate what they could find off the land and in the seas. Their diet was very high fat, high protein, high fiber, and carbohydrates only from fruits and vegetables. They did not have fields of wheat or rice or quinoa to harvest their whole grains from. In fact, they didn’t eat grains/beans/legumes at all. These foods are all the by product of agriculture which came many, many years later. So maybe or digestive system is meant to be without grains/beans/legumes???? Maybe this WHOLE GRAIN rage is wrong? Maybe we should eat more animal protein and less tofu and beans? Like I said, no one knows what perfect is…this is a theory. If you want tons of evidence on the theory it exists.

Why not eat grains/beans? They actually contain some little molecules that cause gut irritation and therefore immune stimulation. This constant inflammation of the gut can lead to numerous health issues. They also contain a lot of carbohydrates per volume and if a person doesn’t burn those carbs they are stored eventually as fat. Triglycerides and VLDL cholesterol can be an indicator of this problem. You can store these fats in your liver which can eventually cause non-alcoholic liver disease. You can create an insulin resistance from excess carbohydrates. You can end up with elevated cholesterol and diabetes with too many carbs too! Agh! The list goes on and without getting too biochemical geeky on you…you get the idea.

So what do grains/beans do to hormone balance? Well, if you recall from last article I spoke about the female and the stress hormones in relation to different disease illnesses. You make all your hormones from your cholesterol…that is why no fat diets can really screw people up! So we need good cholesterol. Next, we get B vitamins from animal proteins and these proteins are crucial for all the reactions that take place in our liver to deal with hormones. When people eat more carbs (grains especially) they can develop an insulin resistance which then can contribute to polycystic ovarian syndrome (very common today). Also, your growth hormones come from healthy proteins. Oh, and your thyroid needs tyrosine to function properly (yep, tyrosine is from animal proteins).

One question I often get is “does this diet throw you into ketosis”? Great question. Yes it does…and we want that. ALL biochemistry books say that your brain, kidney, heart, and liver actually prefer ketones over glucose as fuel (most doctors/nutritionists forget all their biochemistry the day they pass the class). That’s right, our body actually prefers to burn ketones as fuel. It takes about 2 weeks for the body to use up it’s glucose stores to start to burn fats/proteins as fuel…this fuel is the ketones I speak of. So instead of burning all those carbs you used to eat as gas, we start to burn fat instead….ooooohhhh, doesn’t that make your butt feel smaller already?!

I challenge anyone to a 30 day trial of this primitive way of eating. If you have hormone or health issues they will benefit from this nutritional plan. Do a before and after cholesterol panel and surprise the heck out of yourself and your physician. Here are the basics.

Can eat:

Animal protein–GRASS fed or wild meat (if we are avoiding grains we don’t want to eat corn/grain fat protein!), fish and eggs ORGANIC–doesn’t mean grass fed…check labels. (upto 1 gram protein per pound of body weight per day)

Carbohydrates/fiber–all the vegetables you want and fruit in moderation (no white potatoes and no corn). Athletes can add more carb in form of sweet potatoes.

Fats–nuts, seeds, coconut oil, and some olive oil

Dairy–avoid for 30 days then try yogurt (plain) or even a little cheese….no milk.

Beverages–tea, coffee, water, coconut milk (no soy or rice milk either)

Exercise–30 minutes per day of strength moves or intervals (think pushups, lunges, squats, jumps etc.)

A perfect diet doesn’t mean perfect hormones but man can it help! Eating this primitive way can increase bone density, reduce PMS, eliminate PCOS, lower blood sugar/HgA1c, lower cholesterol, decrease autoimmune reactions/diseases, improve thyroid function, help out your stress glands, reduce body fat, and…..make you feel spectacular. If you want more proof or resources check out robbwolf.com or his book PALEOSOLUTION, everydaypaleo.com, or read Gary Taubes book GOOD CALORIES, BAD CALORIES. THe science does exist!!!! Wake up America!!!!

I am so sick of people claiming that the “hcg diet” is dangerous and unhealthy. Usually the person claiming this is ignorant on the subject and perhaps jealous of the results. Even our local health club is doing a community talk on “the danger of hcg and rapid weight loss”. Cracks me up…this is the same club that wants you to pay $50-100 per month to jog on their treadmill but stop for a bagel on the way out….I guess it keeps you coming back! Forgive me, I am a sarcastic bitch sometimes….I am all for exercise but come on PEOPLE!

The hcg diet is NOT dangerous for most people. At my office, we medically screen potential clients to make sure they can do the diet. There are some people that can NOT do the diet and some people need help with drug management over the course of the diet. The diet is only 6 weeks long…not months and months like some think. In six weeks no one in America is going to die from malnutrition…remember you are eating your own fat for nutrition (that is what the hormone hcg does for us). I guess religious fasts of 20-40 days are socially acceptable but a medical weight loss program causes huge controversy.

Someone recently said “hcg caused a bladder infection in my friend”. I say BULLSHIT to that….dehydration causes 90% of urinary tract infections and if she wasn’t drinking enough water she probably caused the infection all by herself. Coincidence. Coincidence. I did tell this person that sex causes UTIs too…so maybe we shouldn’t have sex either????? Come ON!

The hormone hcg is present in the 100,000’s in pregnant women…injecting 200 iu/day is a pinprick amount compared to that. In fact, the more times you are pregnant the lower your risk of breast cancer. Now I guess I could say that hcg lowers cancer risk…I am not going to say that but these are the claims that get made for or against drugs/programs/vitamins/herbs etc…

With about 3000 people through our HCG program (I did it way before the FAD hit) we have had no serious medical problems. In fact, we have had hundreds of medical miracles…people go off of blood pressure medications, migraines go away, blood sugar stabilizes, rashes go away and hundreds of other maladies disappear. If you can convince people that what they eat matters and directly causes disease and health issues then we have succeeded…no matter how many pounds they lost.

I do hate the fact that people do the program and then gain their weight back and then want to do it again. These people irk me. I want people to change how they eat forever….be thinner forever, be healthier forever. I love the lifelong success the program can jump start in folks. I have over 1000 testimonials I could share and they are the above folks…they lost 30-100lbs on the program and are now LIVING life and maintaining their healthy new self. Love you! When people say “hcg didn’t work for me” I think they meant to say “I didn’t work while doing the hcg”. If you want to do the program do it right, don’t waste your time or money. Agh!

So enough of my verbal diarrhea…I hope you get the idea. HCG is a great jumpstart to a healthy new life and anyone who says differently is ignorant or makes money prescribing drugs and seeing sick, fat people. Good luck!!!!!!!

rgds,

Hey all-I am sick of people/patients saying “I can’t believe Dr.GB (not my real name…many of you know me) promotes the hcg diet”. First of all, I am entitled to my opinion…my opinion is backed by 9 years of college/medical school education and 11 years of patient experience. Let me tell you all why I do think the hcg is good for most…my opinion afterall.

I think that the hcg program jump starts anyone’s journey towards wellness. Yes, you might lose 25-40+ pounds and feel great but medically speaking you have just really improved your health. Your heart thanks you for releasing some burden off of its action, your blood sugar might register on the normal side now, your blood pressure might not scare the person taking it, your brain might not want sugar/empty carbs when bored, your appetite might not be that of a grizzly bear before hibernation, your kidneys have to deal with less fluid, and YOU LOOK FRICKIN’ FABULOUS!

As a physician, I get so sick of other physicians telling their patients to lose weight and then offering NOTHING to help them. Well, this hcg program is an option for my clients. Yes, it is a drastic, invasive, seemingly crazy way to start a weight loss journey but HELLO—-if you lose 25-40+ pounds maybe, just maybe you will begin to change your life forever! I do lots of other weight loss programs for my patients that need to lose 5-20 pounds but when someone needs to lose more than that, the hardest part is EMBARKING on the journey.

I have had lots of patients lose over 100 pounds….without surgery or harsh drugs…THAT ROCKS! Those people will tell you HCG saved their life.

I have had people lose 25 pounds and then change the way they eat forever. Oh, and they even go to the gym now….WOW! Oh, and their health is better now than ever!

I have had people gain back every pound they lost within 2-3 months of the hcg program. I HATE that…HCG is NOT a quick fix, nothing is. If you are not ready to be healthy forever, then save your money and time. You will need the money for insulin and blood pressure medication eventually anyway.

The hcg program is also a great cleanse for people. It is also a hypo-allergenic diet. I have had many people figure out they were allergic to wheat or dairy or corn or soy or….after doing the program. I have seen many medical issues disappear while on the hcg program…after all, food can cause illness or disease. I have seen eczema, GERD, migraines, acne, hypertension, high cholesterol, edema, PMS, menopausal symptoms, and many others issues DISAPPEAR on the diet!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! If that doesn’t teach folks that what they eat matters then nothing will.

Thanks for reading the soap box….Next time someone wonders why this physician does HCG with people, I can refer to the soapbox. HA!

Dr.GB

Happy Spring to all of you! I saw many fat little robins on my lawn yesterday…a sure sign of sunshine to come. Start of your Spring with a little Spring cleaning. I challenge you to do the Green Smoothie challenge cleanse.

Directions for the next 7-10 days:

1. Every day drink 32 ounces of delicious green smoothie. Make in the morning in your blender or VitaMix (much better at liquifying the greens than a standard blender) and drink through out the day or even just for breakfast. Recipe to follow.

2. Eat only fruits, veggies, limited whole grains and drink lots of water. No wheat or dairy. No sugar or processed food.

3. You can do some lean protein…fish and white meat or protein powder.

Green Smoothies:

2-3 cups water (add more if you like it thinner)

Fruit–add 2 to 3 pieces of fruit (frozen berries, frozen bananas, apple, mango, pear, orange etc…)

Greens–add 4-5 leaves of kale, two handfuls spinach, or other greens till your hearts content

Other–can sweeten with stevia or a bit of agave. I also add flaxmeal or chia seeds to my smoothie. Ice can be nice too.

Smoothies should taste good so adjust according to your taste! Here is a TOAST with my green smoothie to your Spring cleanse!

1. Diet——-all the veggies, fruit, nuts, and protein you want. Olive oil, coconut oil, and a little butter for oils…Basically, if it runs on the earth or grows from the earth EAT it.

2. Protein powder—Get a whey protein powder (isolate form) and eat for breakfast in a smoothie or between meals to prevent snack attack. Our store has a couple choices and flavors.

3. GREENS-either eat fresh greens (pounds of them), put them in smoothies, or try our GREENS FIRST powder which makes it easy for you. The GREENS FIRST taste delicious too…I add them to my protein smoothie with some berries and get it all in one nice drink.

Other things to help out…..liver herbs, massage, exercise, water, water, and more water……………

Rgds,

If you don’t believe me…come to one of our classes and see for yourself. Folks that have done the program often stop in and offer testomonials. We rely on word of mouth advertising and so far our program ROCKS! We do it the legal way…we actually require you to come in and fill out our form (which has health issues and drugs/meds listed) and become part of our clinic. You pay NO more for real care and real support. We only offer the class to people who buy the hcg through us (homeopathic hcg purchased online is not REAL hcg). Hcg is a prescriptive drug…if you didn’t get it from a doctor you got someone’s pee or a scam or a homeopathic remedy. (all of which don’t work)

Case in point–We had a man who lost 60 pounds his first round on HCG. He is a bartender and talks with alot of people…he has sent 50+ people (mostly men) to do our program! His slim “no-beer” belly was proof enough….

Get off the couch, put the food away, and come see us!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I wanted to write a word about our HCG program at the BALANCE CLINIC. We have been doing HCG DIETS since 2007. With that in mind, we are really GOOD at helping people succeed on the diet. Recently, there are other clinics and practitioners starting to do the diet even in our area. Everyone wants a piece of your wallet…make sure you choose a place that atleast knows what they are doing.

I, Dr.Greenbean, had to hire a consultant just to do the nutritional part of the diet. I do the medical end, she does the food/diet end. My gal gets probably 80 phone calls/emails per day from clients who NEED her help. I, personally, could NOT do all that so I hired her to help. Many clinics will give you the drug but then you get NO help or support at all. Make the choice for yourself.

Another problem that has come up is this: People are coming to our class to learn the diet and program but are purchasing the hcg through the net or another clinic. Morally this is so wrong. We don’t charge for our class (which probably is going to change) and people are taking advantage of us. Please be honest and tell us where you came from….we can work with you. BUT, if you buy your hcg online (which is illegal and shady) or from another place please don’t ask for our help and support for free. Like I said, we have been doing it for 3 years and know what we are doing…….

WE want you to lose weight and succeed! I am working on a maintenance plan for our dieters….it will be a GREEN weight watchers with wellness of sorts…very exciting! Watch for more on the program.
